DRAM 1310  -  Introduction to Theatre (all sections):

(Note: Beginning Spring semester 2011, DRAM 1310 will have no co-requisite lab hour requirement.)

Students enrolled in Introduction to Theatre (DRAM 1310) have the following Lab Hour requirements.

Lab Credit Hours Are Required:

As you will learn in this course, theatre is an ongoing process that requires the cooperation and talents of many people in many different jobs.  To academically and intellectually survey this course, a student should experientially learn the importance of “behind the scenes” participation in a production.  A minimum of sixteen (16) lab credits must be achieved by the student prior to your exam dayThis is time spent outside of class.  Incomplete credits will result in the lowering of your final grade by one (1) letter grade.  No exceptions!

The sixteen (16) lab credits for this course can be fulfilled by: working on your final production project; attending Collin Theatre Center and professional plays as assigned; participation in the physical production and publicity work of the Collin Theatre Center shows; and/or watching approved videos of live performances.

  • Eight (8) lab credits are for the rehearsals of your final production project.

  • Eight (8) lab credits will be fulfilled by attending the three (3) assigned plays.  Failure to attend the three (3) assigned plays will result in incomplete lab hours and the lowering of your grade by one (1) letter grade.

Extra lab credit hours can be earned in combinations of the following:

  • Four (4) lab credits may be accredited by donating supervised hours in the scene shop, costume shop and/or box office.  One (1) hour of work equals one (1) lab credit hour.  Students must keep a time sheet to receive lab credit for their work.  Make sure you get your time sheet signed before you leave your work area!  Do not lose your time sheet or you will have to start all over again.*

  • Attend two (2) additional Professional Productions for a total of (4) lab credit hours.  Play critique papers will be required as part of this lab component.

  • View two (2) Videos/DVDs of taped theatrical performances for a total of (4) lab credit hours.  Play critique papers will be required as part of this lab component.  The video choices must be approved by your instructor.  (See below for list of Approved list of Plays and Musicals on Videotape/DVD.)

* A sign up sheet of available projects in the scene shop, costume shop and box office will be posted in the various work areas.  If you do not sign up and simply show up, you risk being turned away.  If you are signed up for a work area and cannot be there, take your name off the list or let the supervisor know you will not be there.  If you fail to do this, you will not be permitted to participate in projects in that area again, thus hindering your opportunity to complete your lab credits.
