Shannon
Kearns-Simmons is an actor, director, and teacher.
She studied acting and theatre in London, at Bucknell University,
and received her MFA in Acting at the International Actor's Training
Academy at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
She has performed in London, Bratislava, Slovakia, and Budapest,
Hungary. She has worked
with Fred Neumann and Ruth Maleczech and Mabou Mines; with
Thomas Prattki from the Le Coq School of Paris; and members of The Living Theatre, The
Moscow School of Dramatic Arts, Shakespeare and Company, the Royal
Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Dell’Arte
International School of Physical Theatre and the Omaha Magic Theatre.
She has been privileged to have been directed by leading
directors of our time as Hermia in Liviu Ciulei's A
Midsummer Night's Dream, Electra in Henryk Baranowski’s The
Oresteia, a dancer/ensemble member in Laszlo Marton’s Dance In
Time (North American Premiere), as Titania (Midsummer) and
Aguae in the world premiere of Reginald Gibbons’ new translation of Bakkhai,
by Fred Curchack, and by Peter Huszti from the Hungarian
National Academy of Acting in Shakespeare’s Flowers.
Shannon was also the co-creator and performer with Fred Curchack
in their original two-person show Lear’s Shadow, which combines
and weaves live action with video projection, puppets, masks, and the
playing of multiple roles. Shannon has taught at the University of Tennessee in
Knoxville, Texas Woman’s University and the University of Texas at
Dallas. In 2004, Shannon performed
the role of Cate in Undermain Theatre’s production of Blasted, by
Sarah Kane.
This show was rated one of the top ten best productions of 2004 by
the Dallas Morning News.
Last Fall, Shannon performed the title role in Undermain
Theatre’s production of Margo Veil; a production that was honored
by the Dallas Morning News as the #1 Theatre Production in
the Metroplex for 2005. Shannon performed two readings this
spring: Shakespeare Unplugged, with Arts and Letters Live at the
Dallas Museum of Art in conjunction with Shakespeare Dallas and
Southeastern Festival of Song and All of the Above, by Tom Sime
for Wingspan at the Bath House Cultural Center. She completed a
new version of Carlo Goldoni’s The Mistress of the Inn with Robin
Armstrong, translated by Carmela Lamberti, performed at Collin
College in 2006. Last summer Shannon served as movement
director for Air Raid, by Archibald MacLeish for Core Performance
Manufactory in the Festival of Independent Theatres. She recently
joined the Undermain Theatre as an ensemble member, appearing in such
productions as Bruce DuBose's play
Jimmie Rodgers, Waiting for a Train, Archibald MacLeish's This Music Crept by Me
Upon the Waters, Shining City ("Best of 2007," Fort Worth Star-Telegram), The Snow Queen
and Neil Young's Greendale (Undermain Theatre, Ice Factory
