Mirandolina
is the high-spirited mistress of an inn frequented by wealthy
aristocrats, many of whom are smitten with her.
The coquettish Mirandolina makes good-natured sport of her
admirers, driving them to distraction.
She doesn't love the men, but she thinks very highly of their
money and is pleasant and polite to them to keep them staying on at her
inn.
While they compete with trinkets and promises of everlasting
adoration, she has her sights set on long-term financial security and
the freedom to do exactly as she pleases.
A
classic comedy, staged in commedia style, The
Mistress of the Inn teaches a painful, but valuable, lesson
about what love is, and what love is not.
